Jim White of Shermco Industries to Give Three Presentations at PowerTest 2010

Electrical power systems manufacturers, vendors and electrical testing /maintenance companies will converge on sunny Long Beach, California, Feb. 15-18, for the 2010 PowerTest Electrical Maintenance and Safety Conference.

Among the conference’s lineup of industry experts is Jim White, director of Training for Shermco Industries, who will give the following three presentations:

  • ANSI/NETA Standards and Electrical Inspectors – How They Affect Installations – This breakout session will be Monday, Feb. 15 from 3:15 – 4:00 p.m. PST. The session will go into detail regarding the ANSI/NETA testing standards for both the acceptance and maintenance of electrical power systems, which provide guidance and assurance to the authority having jurisdiction and the facility owner that the power system has been installed properly, meets plans and specification requirements, and is functioning as designed and intended. Article 230.95 of the NEC is used as an example of how ANSI/NETA ATS-2009 and the NEC should be used together to provide safe work areas.
  • Electrical Testing Basics: What You Need to Know to Succeed – Part I
  • Electrical Testing Basics: What You Need to Know to Succeed – Part II – This seminar given in two parts, either or both of which can be attended, will focus on some of the most common electrical test equipment and theory. The use of a megohmmeter, insulation power factor test set, dc winding resistance test set, and microhmmeter will be covered These tests will be related back to the ANSI/NETA MTS-2007 standard. Beginning with basic principles for each test, the seminar will cover specific tests for transformers, circuit breakers (air, vacuum, oil, and gas), switchgear, and switches, leaving time for questions and interaction.

White is the training director for Shermco Industries, a leading provider of rotating apparatus and electrical power system training.
