SOS Intl and SANS Institute Partner for CIP Training

Feb. 17, 2016
Customers Gain Expanded Options to Meet CIP Standards and Requirements

SOS Intl has partnered with SANS Institute’s (SANS) Securing the Human business to offer computer-based Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) training to the electric power industry. The partnership helps clients meet the training responsibilities mandated by the North American Electric Reliability Corp. Standard CIP-004-5.1 R1 and R2, version 5.

The NERC Standard requires applicable utilities to have a general security awareness program as well as a cyber security training program that addresses nine specified security topics, its cyber security policies and 31 additional subtopics. SOS and SANS training is designed to meet all NERC CIP training requirements for those who have authorized cyber or unescorted physical access to Bulk Electric System’s cyber systems.

“This partnership combines an unrivaled team of experts and advisors from SOS and SANS,” said Rocky Sease, owner and CEO of SOS. “By combining our efforts, SOS and SANS can offer the electric utility industry dynamic training, as well as guaranteed updates so they remain compliant with the CIP Standard and requirements.”

“We’re really excited about this collaboration. Combining the reputation SANS has built in the security training market and the reputation SOS has established in training and compliance for the utility industry, we make a really good team,” noted Larry King, Managing Director, SANS.
