Westar Energy and Topeka Public Schools' Education StationNov 22, 2014
Education Station is a first-of-its-kind project featuring a new electrical substation at the center of an educational park about electricity. Westar Energy built the station in partnership with Topeka Public Schools, and it is the first addition to the Kanza Education and Science Park.
In 2009, Topeka Public Schools purchased the Kanza Education and Science Park and began developing the site to be an education destination for students and people from across Kansas and the Midwest. Situated on 150 acres and centrally located between two world class hospitals, businesses at Kanza Education and Science Park enjoy healthy relationships with the medical community and area educational institutions.
Following are images of the energized educational park; note the components are color-coded so that touring students can look over the fence from a grandstand into the facility and learn what components make up a substation.
