Winter Storm Pax pushed two rounds of wintry weather across the South earlier this week. The second round produced the heaviest amounts of freezing rain, sleet and snow, as several Southeastern utilities were ready and waiting to respond to widespread power outages. Edison Electric Institute reported that about 600,000 customers have been affected by this latest winter storm, and at least 16,000 utility employees have been deployed.
Alabama Power, a Southern Company, was one of the utilities battling ice and snow. Crews have restored more than 32,000 customers since Wednesday evening, with all storm-affected accounts up now (Feb. 13 evening), according to Ike Pigott, Alabama Power Corporate Communications.
