Edison International Commits $125,000 to Aid Hurricane Katrina Victims

Edison International announced a pledge of up to $125,000 to the American Red Cross in support of relief efforts to help those struggling to cope with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the most devastating storm in the nation's history.

In addition to a $100,000 donation, Edison International also has set up an employee contributions relief fund for hurricane victims and will match the first $25,000 donated by employees to aid the victims.

At the same time, Edison's utility subsidiary, Southern California Edison, has contacted Entergy, which is coordinating utility assistance efforts in the region, to determine what assistance it could provide.

John Bryson, Edison International chairman, said the company's donation was made because of the stark hardships facing the hurricane survivors in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama.

"Our employees have always demonstrated a willingness to help others. Many of us have friends or family in the region. We encourage everyone to help in the disaster aftermath," said Bryson.

Based in Rosemead, Calif., Edison International is the parent company of Southern California Edison, Edison Mission Energy, and Edison Capital.
