National Grid Crews Provided Assistance in Florida
National Grid sent 76 employees to Florida on Aug. 26 at the request of Florida Power & Light to aid in repairing damage expected from Hurricane Katrina.
National Grid sent 29 line crews -- 12 from its New York region and 17 crews from its New England region. They remained in Florida for up to seven days.
The crews left their respective regions and traveled by chartered jet to West Palm Beach, Florida. Florida Power & Light provided ground transport and dispatch crews as needed to the Dade and Broward county areas to begin service restoration to 1.2 million customers impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
National Grid, through the transmission and distribution of electricity and natural gas, serves close to 4 million customers across 29,000 square miles of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Rhode Island.
