PHI Crews Deploy to Florida to Assist in Power Restoration Effort

Pepco Holdings, Inc. has deployed utility repair crews to Florida where they will join an army of linemen working to restore power to millions of customers left in the dark by Hurricane Wilma.

About 50 linemen and support personnel from PHI's subsidiary utilities, Atlantic City Electric, Delmarva Power and Pepco, departed in repair trucks from various locations in Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and the District of Columbia for the approximately 1100-mile journey.

This marked the third time in two months that PHI crews responded to mutual assistance calls from Gulf Coast utilities ravaged by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Under mutual assistance pacts, member utilities help each other recover from disasters.

"This has been a busy hurricane season and we're just glad that we can come to their aid," said Mike Maxwell, PHI Vice President of Emergency Preparedness. "Once again, this goes to show how the industry's mutual assistance pacts are critical in responding to natural disasters. This also says a lot about our employees who are willing to drop everything and travel a great distance in response to a call for help."

The crews will work 16-hour shifts and sleep in tents at staging areas set up by Florida Power & Light in the areas devastated by the storm.

Pepco Holdings, Inc., headquartered in Washington, D.C., delivers electricity and natural gas to about 1.8 million customers in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey and Virginia, through its subsidiaries Pepco, Delmarva Power and Atlantic City Electric.
