The installation of solar and wind energy in the grid has presented the opportunity to enhance energy diversity and independence while at the same time creating the challenge of integrating it into the existing grid. As utilities and developers strive to install generating capacity to meet customer demand and state mandates and goals, many others have risen to the challenge of accommodating these new, variable generation sources.
The "Integration of Renewables" Super Session at the 2012 IEEE PES T&D will provide a broad view on the integration topic with timely presentations related to reliability, economics, technology and case studies.
Mitch Bradt of the University of Wisconsin-Madison will moderate the session on Wednesday, May 9 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Other panelists include:
- Charlie Smith, Utility Variable Generation Integration Group
- Laura Rauch, Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator
- Mark Reynolds, Power Engineers
- Stephen Beuning, Xcel Energy
