POWER Engineers announced it will be providing asset management software to Basin Electric Power Cooperative. The announcement came in conjuction with the IEEE PES Expo. Basin Electric, headquartered in Bismarck, North Dakota, is implementing a Transmission Asset Management Information System (TAMIS), which will allow for increased productivity and lower transmission line inspection-related costs. POWER Engineers is providing demonstrations of TAMIS at Booth 834.

TAMIS provides various functions for line inspection and data management, showing vehicle routing including utility access roads and line fault location and offers users the additional capabilities of managing easements and right of way information.

Basin Electric Power Cooperative selected TAMIS to fulfill mobile inspection application needs. The system will serve to centralize and standardize the transmission line inspection process.

Numerous inspection crews are used in Basin Electric Power Cooperative’s wide-spanning service territory. Basin Electric Power Cooperative serves over 2.5 million consumers in its 430,000-mile service area from the Canadian to the Mexican border. The cooperative maintains 1,867 miles of high-voltage transmission lines as well as 56 switchyards and substations.

“Bringing the office to the field with all maintenance history, maps with access routes and the ability to bring up prints and records of vegetation management at the fingertips of the crews in the field will be beneficial. TAMIS will increase the productivity and cut costs of unnecessary return trips. Having all records in one location and the ability to bring up reports and get answers in the field will be a great asset to the crew and company,” said Terrance Kringstad, line superintendant for Basin Electric Power Cooperative.

The system will be configured to incorporate Basin Electric Power Cooperative’s specific inspection needs. Implementation is scheduled for completion in April 2008.
