Australia’s CitiPower and Powercor Select Silver Spring Networks for Major Advanced Metering Infrastructure Rollout
Silver Spring Networks has been selected by electrical distributors CitiPower and Powercor Australia to provide the network to support the rollout of a government-mandated Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) program.
Under the agreement, Silver Spring Networks will provide network infrastructure, devices, software and a variety of services in support of the AMI Program. The deployment, which will begin immediately and is expected to be complete in 2013, is intended to network approximately 1.2 million homes and businesses throughout Victoria, Australia.
As part of the project, CitiPower and Powercor will facilitate other applications, including Remote Connect/Disconnect and Demand Response.
“As electricity distributers, we are responsible for the quality, security and reliability of our customer’s power supply, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year,” said CitiPower and Powercor CEO Shane Breheny. “Partnering with Silver Spring Networks to roll out an intelligent, networked electric infrastructure will help us to better meet that demand, while contributing to a more energy efficient future.”
