Consumers Energy's 'Brain Station' Promotes Efficiency, Environmental Awareness
Kids and students of any age can sharpen their knowledge of energy with a visit to Consumers Energy's new and improved Brain Station at www.consumersenergy.com/kids launched during Energy Awareness Month.
The Brain Station is an online place to have fun while learning about energy issues. In particular, the site brings attention to energy conservation and environmental awareness, utility career information, a number of downloadable lesson plans, coloring pages, a special scouts section, energy history and more.
"The brain uses about 20 percent of the body's energy, and we're helping ensure the brain and energy remain top of mind," said Marj Longcore, Consumers Energy's education program manager. "Using valuable feedback from students and teachers, we gave our online presence a complete makeover. There's something new and exciting behind every click of the mouse."
The new Brain Station site features a bright and cheerful design with easy navigation that's appealing to students, teachers and parents. Several site activities help students learn about natural gas and electric safety, as well as increasing awareness of the link between energy and environmental issues. Prior to the site's launch, several teachers were asked to review the material and provide feedback. A Mason High School teacher provided online feedback, writing:
"As a high school teacher, I enjoyed the career section - I was informed of internships that I can be talking to my students about. There is so much great information about so many topics."
Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy, provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.5 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
