Telemetric to Support Landis+Gyr Meters

Telemetric Corp. has announced the availability of an end-to-end wireless communication solution for the Landis+Gyr S4e commercial & industrial meters. Unlike piecemeal solutions where the customer is forced to integrate communication hardware, wireless networks and software from multiple vendors, the Telemetric solution provides an integrated end-to-end solution of intelligent digital cellular hardware, digital cellular communications over the AT&T wireless network, and Telemetric’s PowerVista software.

The benefit to the customer is the ability to deploy powerful two-way remote C&I metering solutions rapidly and cost-effectively, with no infrastructure investment required. Telemetric’s open-systems architecture incorporates the ANSI C12 meter protocol; AT&T’s enterprise-class digital cellular network; and Telemetric’s PowerVista software system. Telemetric’s system excels when there is a requirement for frequent interval meter reads along with full two-way digital communications to the meter. Examples of this two-way capability include next-generation green applications such as sending time-of-use price signals or interruptible load control and verification.

Telemetric’s Remote Telemetry Module (RTM) for C12 metering provides the communication hardware solution for the Landis+Gyr S4e meter. Unlike a simple modem, the Telemetric RTM is an intelligent communications processor with integrated digital GSM/GPRS cellular radio. The RTM supports a user-customizable ANSI C12 meter profile that can be configured to read any of the S4e’s ANSI table values – including active, reactive and apparent energy, demand, TOU, alarms and meter identification data. The RTM’s ANSI C12 profile and configuration can be changed over the digital cellular network.

Besides the ability to query any of the meter’s C12 data points at any time, the user can configure meter alarms or analog range changes which the RTM reports immediately as "report by exception."

In addition, time scheduled reporting of meter data can be setup to provide energy or demand data as frequently as every one minute. This intelligence allows for efficient and flexible real-time advanced metering applications.

The RTM C12 also supports the optional Input/Output board on the L+G S4e meter. With this option board installed, the RTM can provide control outputs to the Form C relays on the S4e option board, and provide exception reporting of digital contact inputs from the option board. This solution can be used for demand-response applications integrated with the meter and dispatched from the customer’s central operations or SCADA.

Telemetric provides enterprise-class AT&T digital GSM/GPRS network services to link the RTM’s radio to the Telemetric PowerVistaTM software and the customer’s application. In partnership with AT&T, Telemetric manages the end-to-end data connectivity over a private IP network. Flexible and costeffective data plans are available to meet any application. System security and network redundancy features enhance the security and reliability of the meter data application.

Telemetric PowerVista is a powerful and flexible suite of applications and tools for managing advanced meters and other distribution system assets. PowerVista enables real-time access to all the meter data from any PC by logging onto a secure PowerVista account created and maintained for each customer.

PowerVista users can view, manage and export meter data. Customized device screens and extensive management tools allow the customer to manage large numbers of meters. PowerVista has five levels of user security, including a view-only user mode that can be used to give C&I customers access to meter data. PowerVista’s open architecture allows adapters to be created for the customer’s meter data management software.

The combination of Telemetric’s intelligent RTM for advanced metering with a nationwide AT&T network and the PowerVista software deliver the building blocks to implement a powerful two-way advanced metering solution for delivery point or commercial and industrial metering. By supporting the Landis+Gyr S4e meters, Telemetric offers a proven, cost-effective C&I metering solution.
