Digital Voltage Indicators

HD Electric Co.'s DVI-500 Digital Voltage Indicators are a new addition to the company's Digital Voltage Indicator line. The DVI is a direct contact, compact instrument designed to read the voltage on a conductor from 0.1-kV up to 500-kV line-to-ground and display the voltage on a large three-digit LED display. The display is easy to read on the end of a long hotstick and can be used on overhead lines or in underground applications. The DVI-500T also can measure elbow test points. An audible indication is given when voltage is detected and allows the user to distinguish between nominal and induced voltages.

Distribution Lightning Arrester

The newly designed Ohio Brass 15-kV to 35-kV Protecta*Lite distribution lightning arrester helps to provide the security needed to protect a power supply from lightning. This arrester/insulator combo pack is shipped completely assembled. Because it's available from the factory to the field ready to go, there is less downtime for new installations or existing maintenance.

Fence-Crossing Device

The Fence Stepper makes it easy for utility workers to cross fences that are supported by T-posts. Linemen no longer have to worry about getting their clothing caught on barbed wire or crawling under or between fences. The device provides a secure foothold that allows the user to step up on one side of the post, swing a leg over the fence to the foothold on the other side and step off. Its compact, lightweight, aircraft aluminum construction supports up to 1,000 lbs.

Cable Stripper

L.A. Tools' cable stripper combines many cable sizes in one safe, lightweight, productive tool. The insulation is stripped for various depths, termination lugs and splice lugs. The product uses a drive ratchet or cordless drill to strip insulation accurately and avoids bruising the conductor for quality workmanship.

Its smooth, lightweight design enables fast and efficient performance in J-boxes, transformers and service panels. Each cutting blade is made of tool steel. Each blade is heat treated for durable, trouble-free performance and the ability to hold a better, sharper edge. The tool also does not require the repetitive turning of the wrist and hands associated with Carpal tunnel syndrome. Recessed knives are built in to avoid possible lacerations with a sharp knife.

Work Boots

The 10-inch EH Composite Toe Dri-Line was built to keep your feet dry inside when conditions are wet on the outside. A highly advanced Sympatec waterproof membrane keeps water out and adds cushion and comfort to the boot. For climbing, the dual steel shanks are added to provide the extra arch support needed. Other quality features include a 7.5-inch brown waterproof leather upper that provides support to your legs. A climber side patch, solid brass hooks and eyelets, supportive heel counter, Vibram lug sole, and three rows of durable stitching to help prolong the life of the boot. This boot meets ASTM safety standards and is EH approved.

Pole Lariat

Bashlin's Pole Lariat allows the lineman to use and maintain hard-earned climbing skills and to keep much of the maneuverability of free climbing, while providing a lightweight, portable temporary anchor that easily moves with the lineman up and down the pole. This product is not suitable for covering ice-covered poles.

Distribution Phasing Tester

M.W. Bevins offers hot-line testers for overhead and underground work. The Chance Phasing Testers for 16 kV determine phase relationships and approximate voltage, line-to-line or line-to-ground. Each tester consists of two fiberglass poles with end fittings threaded for interchangeable probes. The probe fittings couple with a high-impedance component encased in each pole. To complete the test circuit, a 22-ft length of insulated flexible cable stores on the reel affixed to one pole and connects to the voltmeter on the other pole. The tester poles first attach to two 6-ft Epoxiglas insulating universal handles (included in each kit for proper working clearances). Then the probes can be brought into contact with the conductors appropriate for the meter to read phase-to-phase or phase-to-ground voltage.

Digital Application

The Electrician's Helper takes the hassle out of looking up electrical codes and doing complex calculations for installations. With the software, which linemen can download from the iTunes Apps store, they can calculate voltage, current and power in three-phase delta and wye circuits. Users can also find the ampacity of a conductor as per the NEC tables. Linemen also can calculate the voltage drop in a line based on length, size, current and temperature. They also can use the application to determine what size raceway is needed for a bundle of conductors or find the maximum bend radius of a conduit.

In addition, they can find the maximum capacitor kVAR for a motor and the current reduction obtained. The application also allows users to find the motor current, heater current, breaker required, wire size, starter and conduit size for a particular three-phase motor. They can find the full load current of an induction, squirrel cage and synchronous motor, or find the locked rotor current of a single or three-phase motor. Linemen can also do basic ohm's law calculations, find decimal equivalents of fractions and convert temperature scales.

Wire Sizing Device

The Burndy Wire Mike accurately measures and identifies wire sizes. It can be used for stranded, solid, and ACSR conductors. The reverse side is for pipe measurements, inside or outside diameter. A vinyl pouch is included. The stranded conductor is 18ga - 2000MCM. The solid conductor is 20ga - 4/0. The ACSR conductor is #6 - 336.4.

Lineman's Backsaver Belt

This belt uses leather construction throughout, including tool loops, tape thong, pocket tabs and cushioning material. The body belt strap is covered in leather and is made of Klein-Kord, a strong nylon fabric that is abrasion-resistant, non-conductive and flexible. The 4-inch lateral movement of D-ring is independent of belt and pad. It meets or exceeds applicable OSHA requirements and ASTM and CSA standards.
