Austria: VA TECH T&D Wins Orders for Vienna Substation
Wienstrom utility has awarded six contracts worth approximately Euro 16 million (US$14.4 million) for Vienna North Substation to subsidiaries of VA TECH Transmission & Distribution, a member of the listed VA TECH group.
Deliveries include two 380/110-kV coupling transformers and a 110-kV shunt reactor, manufactured by VA TECH ELIN Transformatoren; a 110/380-kV transformer protection system, supplied by VA TECH SAT; and 380-kV and 110-kV gas-insulated switchgear, as well as various auxiliary systems to be provided by VA TECH ELIN Transmission.
This project is the first time new compact gas-insulated switchgear, which was launched last year and is manufactured by the VA TECH Schneider High Voltage Joint Venture, will be installed in Austria.
The new Vienna North Substation is part of a program to expand the 380-kV grid of Wienstrom GmbH to meet the projected demand for electrical power. This feeder connection from the national grid is designed to supply the city of Vienna with a maximum amount of electricity produced by the hydropower plants on the Danube River and in the western part of Austria.
The substation is considered a major contribution to an environmentally friendly approach to power generation using renewable forms of energy. The project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2005.
