Black & Veatch Expands Smart Grid Capabilities

Black & Veatch continues to expand its smart grid suite of services with the acquisition of Enspiria Solutions.

“Enspiria is an industry leader in the strategic planning of smart grid investments and program integration for utilities,” said Rodger E. Smith, president of Black & Veatch's management consulting division. “As momentum continues to build in this industry, Black & Veatch, together with Enspiria, will be at the forefront of unparalleled technology advancements that help our clients reduce demand, enhance customer service capabilities, improve reliability and harden their infrastructure to protect it from cyber attacks.”

More than 35 utilities have already turned to the Enspiria team for help in defining and implementing their smart grid programs. These programs go beyond the electric meter and place energy conservation and demand management into the homes of consumers by making available real-time pricing and consumption information. In total, the company has helped to define and implement smart grid programs that benefit approximately 60 million utility customers across North America.

“Black & Veatch has a solid and long-standing reputation for excellence in providing utilities and telecommunications companies with engineering, consulting and construction expertise in the smart grid and utility automation markets, while Enspiria brings unparalleled strategic smart grid planning expertise,” said Chip Scott, president of Enspiria. “Together, we can provide complete concept through completion services, providing our clients a single point of contact for planning, developing and implementing this complex infrastructure.”

Enspiria will become part of Black & Veatch's management consulting division that provides clients with a wide range of advisory solutions in business and regulatory strategy, financial feasibility, rate development, bond financing, asset valuation and evaluation, resource planning, risk management and business applications.
