EPRI Helps Utilities Increase Profitability
EPRI is helping power providers and their customers to manage risk and increase profitability with Internet-based load-management systems. The institute has developed five programs: Determining System and Customer Opportunities, Profiting from Excess Distribution Capacity, Overcoming Capacity Constraints, Demand Trading, and Facilitating Customer Energy.
The programs teach energy service providers how to gain more control over the price they pay for bulk power by adjusting demand in response to price variation and availability of electricity. In addition, customers in the program control their costs through energy management, and distribution companies benefit from both excess capacity and shortfall by targeting particular regions for load growth or demand reduction.
