Battery-Powered Cutter
Linemen can cut steel-reinforced cable with one finger with the Greenlee ES25. Field workers simply place the jaw opening around the cable, swing the cutting blade into place and pull the trigger. The blades are specially contoured and hardened to cut aluminum and steel strands, and the tool can cut ACSR-type cables through 636 kcmil. A 14.4-V battery charges in less than one hour, and operators can make about 50 cuts of Grosbeak or 120 cuts of Merlin on one battery charge. Each cut takes eight seconds or less. Users also can operate the forward/reverse lever and the trigger with one hand, which allows the operator to position and steady the cable with the other hand. The cutter's gear-drive system ensures long life and smooth operation, and an integral circuit breaker protects the motor if the tool becomes overloaded.

Remote Hour Meter
The remote hour meter reading device reduces maintenance time and labor costs by remotely acquiring and automatically tracking lift truck run time. The meter is housed in a 3-inch by 5-inch box and links to a customizable digital paging network. This network allows operators to select a specific time for the device to submit truck run-time data. Users can log into the network and check the information at any time from any computer. The customizable LiftTraks web-based software interface gives managers the ability to use the network's grouping capability to view an entire fleet or specific units based on their settings. Users can also remotely track the location of fleet trucks through an optional GPS add-on.

Steel-Poles Training Kit
A multi-piece training kit that covers the handling, installation and maintenance of steel distribution poles is now available from the American Iron and Steel Institute online store. The kit, “Working with Steel Distribution Poles,” includes a how-to training DVD and a companion PowerPoint presentation that cover the basics of handling, drilling, installing and climbing steel distribution poles. It also provides comprehensive instructor and student manuals for use in a classroom situation, and related industry reference material.
The kit is a spin-off of the hands-on training program that veteran lineman and safety consultant Gary McDonald has presented over the past two years to utility line worker students at some 30 community colleges and technical schools across the United States.
