WiMAX Radio for Wireless Communications

GE Digital Energy's MDS Mercury 3650 is a highly secure industrial-grade radio that provides up to 9 Mbps aggregate Ethernet throughput for mission-critical, industrial SCADA, AMI, video and VoIP wireless communications applications in the United States. Based on WiMAX technology, the Mercury 3650 directly addresses the industry's growing need for large throughput capabilities due to increased security requirements, additional hardware features and field expansion due to mergers and acquisitions. With a return on investment measured in just a few months rather than years, the high-capacity 3.65-GHz wireless solution provides a cost-effective alternative to wired options, such as leased T1 and T3 lines or buried dedicated lines.

Built on 802.16d technology, the Mercury 3650 is capable of prioritizing data using Quality of Service and dedicated service flows, so that the applications most important to the business, such as video for security or mission-critical asset monitoring, will always have bandwidth. Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing with Forward Error Correction and Automatic Repeat reQuest provides robust near- and non-line-of-sight communication capabilities.

The Mercury 3650 is certified to operate in extreme temperature ranges, from -40°C to 70°C (-40°F to 158°F). The product's rugged, durable aluminum chassis is tested to military standards for shock and vibration. Deployments in hazardous and electric power substation environments are facilitated by the solution's Class 1/Div 2 certification and IEEE 1613-compliance.

Secondary Pedestal

Nordic Fiberglass introduces the PSP-151530-MG-L Series plastic secondary pedestal. Under the double-locking lid is a rigid plastic bracket attached to the base. This bracket accommodates up to three 350 MCM or 600 MCM set-screw connectors. Each connector is covered by a clear plastic cover with a plastic tie for added safety.

The pedestal base is wide open for easy access from the top, front, sides and back for cable training and preparation. The pedestal can buried 12 inches (30 cm) deep for underground electrical distribution.

Pipe Freeze Unit

The new RIDGID SF-2500 SuperFreeze pipe-freezing unit quickly and easily isolates sections of copper or steel pipe with ice plugs, eliminating complete system shut-downs and draining.

The RIDGID SF-2500 forms ice plugs in as little as 5 minutes in steel pipes up to 2 inches (5 cm) and copper tubing up to 2.5 inches (6.4 cm). One or two plugs can be formed with a single unit at the same time. The SF-2500 unit operates automatically once the freeze heads are attached to the pipes and the unit is turned on. It continues to run during repairs, insuring the ice plugs do not melt. Flexible rubber hoses connecting the freeze heads to the unit make them easier to handle and allow for quicker coiling and storage in its stainless-steel carrying case.

The SF-2500 unit does not use any hazardous refrigerants, CO2 or nitrogen. Since it does not require accessories or bottles of CO2, the SF-2500 unit is lightweight, and side handles make it easy to transport. The SF-2500 unit uses a specially designed compressor with quick restart capabilities and overload protection.

Tiered-Outboard Mounting Configuration for Scada-Mate CX Switches

S&C Electric Co. announces the availability of a new mounting configuration for Scada-Mate CX Switching Systems: a tiered-outboard mounting configuration. This new configuration enhances the versatility of Scada-Mate CX Switches, enabling them to meet even more application requirements.

Scada-Mate CX Switches are three-pole, group-operated interrupter switches specifically designed to meet the increased need for reliable service — in a lightweight and compact package. Scada-Mate CX Switches are rated 900-A continuous and are offered in voltage ratings of 14.4 kV and 25 kV. They feature a five-time duty-cycle fault-closing rating of 20,000-A RMS asymmetrical. Interrupter position is clearly visible on the open/closed indicator on the bottom of the switch.

With Scada-Mate CX Switches, users only need to purchase the features required today and can easily upgrade tomorrow. Switches can be furnished with factory-installed three-phase S&C Current Sensors, or with three-phase S&C Current/Voltage Sensors on one side of the switch. Alternately, S&C sensors or sensors of other manufacture can be added later.

A S&C control unit or control unit of other manufacture can be added at any time, making the switch ideal for source transfer or remote supervisory control applications.
