Transformers Protection Relays

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Inc. (SEL) announces the availability of two new innovative products, the SEL-787 and SEL-487E transformer protection relays. These relays offer simultaneous harmonic blocking and restraint to eliminate tripping due to external faults and magnetizing inrush conditions.

Both relays integrate with substation control systems via multiple serial ports, dual failover Ethernet connections and multiple protocols. For communications-assisted protection schemes, both relays include high-speed SEL MIRRORED BITS communications.

Directly replace most electromechanical transformer relays with the compact SEL 787 to protect two-winding transformers in industrial plants, utilities and other mission-critical sites. The relay connects to networks with Modbus, DeviceNet, DNP3, and IEC 61850 protocols. It also accepts plug-in modules for ac voltage and neutral current, I/O, communications, or RTD inputs.

The SEL-487E protects and monitors transformers with two to five windings. It detects turn-to-turn faults as small as 2% of the total winding. The subcycle adaptive differential element minimizes damage from internal faults. Monitor and control breakers and disconnect switches through large front-panel LCD one-line diagrams.

Field Mapping

Trimble's VRS Now H-Star service of high-accuracy in-the-field mapping is now available in the state of Florida and across Denver's Front Range in Colorado. A subscription to the Trimble service gives users the ability to obtain real-time, decimeter-level accurate positions consistently and directly at the job site. With instant access to H-Star corrections on demand, field workers can be more efficient and high-accuracy mapping projects can be up and running in minutes to increase productivity.

By accessing proven Trimble VRS technology, subscribers can correct data in the field without setting up base stations, and there is no need for post-processing data. Mapping and geographic information system (GIS) professionals with the Trimble H-Star-compatible GPS receivers — the GeoXH 2008 series handheld receiver or GPS Pathfinder ProXRT receiver — can take advantage of the service. In addition, teaming the GPS Pathfinder ProXRT receiver with the Trimble Nomad series of (800X, 800XC and 800XE) removes the need for a separate phone.

Unified Fleet and Mobile IT Management Platform

In Motion Technology's next-generation onBoard Mobility Manager is a scalable management platform that allows organizations to coordinate, track and troubleshoot vehicles, devices, and mobile networks remotely and in real time.

The onBoard Mobility Manager continuously collects and analyzes information from vehicles equipped with In Motion's onBoard Mobile Gateway. The platform provides a virtual dashboard of information from the field and sends alerts based on pre-set thresholds. The Mobility Manager works with standard Web browsers and displays detailed information about vehicles, networks and devices on a 3-D map.

The enhanced onBoard Mobility Manager includes the following new management modules:

  • onBoard Total Reach allows IT staff to remotely and securely “reach through” and administer communications devices connected to onBoard Mobile Gateways without taking vehicles or personnel off the road.
  • onBoard Telemetry provides headquarters staff with real time information from the field about vehicle operations. It enables fleet managers to monitor and receive alerts triggered by pre-set thresholds for gas mileage, operating hours, engine temperature, fuel and coolant levels, idle times, speed and other functions. It enables organizations to effectively schedule maintenance, reduce breakdowns and save money by monitoring and improving vehicle and driver efficiency.
  • onBoard Tracker enables organizations to track the position, direction and speed of fleet vehicles in real time. Headquarters staff can zoom in on road or bird's eye views, and obtain detailed information about access routes, incident scenes and structures.
  • Coverage and Performance Reports provide a detailed analysis of historical data that empowers organizations to efficiently budget and deploy resources. Wireless coverage reports allow organizations to isolate dead cells and identify the cellular provider with the best coverage. Reports on route and dispatch data can help identify trends and preposition vehicles to achieve the fastest response times and most efficient operations.

Data Logger with Sensors

From MSR Electronics, the MSR145 Analogue is a miniature data logger with integrated temperature, humidity, pressure and three-axis acceleration sensors and offers an additional two or four inputs for connecting external analog sensors. The data logger also comes with an alarm output and one input for starting and stopping data recording.

The MSR145 Analogue combines all the advantages of the MSR145 data logger, such as an exceptionally large storage capacity and the ability to simultaneously measure and record four different measurement parameters, with the benefits offered by additional external sensor interfaces. The two or four analog inputs (0 V to 3 V, 12 bit) can be used for a wide range of conventional sensors, for example conductivity and speed. Measuring 52-mm long and weighing 32 g, the datalogger can be correspondingly equipped to handle measurement applications where external sensors are required instead of the integrated temperature, humidity and pressure sensors. All of the measurement parameters recorded by the data logger can be quickly transferred to a PC both during the measurement process and after it has been completed via a USB interface. Data analysis software is provided free of charge.
