ABB Completes $4.5 Million Installation for Southern California Public Power Authority

ABB has completed a US$4.5 million installation of a 69 kV gas-insulated substation (GIS) design substation project for the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA). Burbank Water and Power is the host utility for the project, entitled the Magnolia Power Project, and this is the fifth gas-insulated substation from ABB to be located in Burbank.

Burbank Water & Power Department supports a customer base including many of the major motion picture studios such as Disney, Warner Brothers and NBC. Three out of the five ABB GISs are located at the studios' property and blend with the neighboring buildings at the studios.

The Magnolia Power Project is constructed on approximately four acres of the existing Burbank Water and Power generating station site and will further improve regional electric reliability by increasing the amount of local generation that is not dependent on long-interstate transmission lines. Six cities from SCPPA participated in the project including Anaheim, Burbank, Cerritos, Colton, Glendale and Pasadena.
