Delmarva Power Project to Benefit Centreville, Maryland

Aug. 28, 2015
Extensive tree trimming and removal will be necessary to accommodate this upgrade.

To improve electric service reliability in Centreville, Maryland, Delmarva Power will replace several poles and upgrade associated infrastructure on power lines on Brown Street and Kidwell and Little Kidwell avenues.

Extensive tree trimming and removal will be necessary to accommodate this upgrade. Trees and other vegetation beneath power lines must be properly maintained to avoid service interruptions that can occur when trees grow into, fall through or topple power lines. In some instances, lower profile trees that will not encroach on power lines will be planted.

“We have received permission from affected property owners to perform the necessary work,” said John Allen, Delmarva Power region vice president. “This section of infrastructure was built in the early 1970s and is due to be upgraded, so it is important that we undertake this project to maintain and improve the reliability of our electric distribution system.”

Work is scheduled to begin in mid-August with completion targeted for the end of September. We will keep customers informed of any street lane closures or short-duration power outages during construction.
