Equipment failures cost utilities millions annually – and each year, they are the root cause of nearly one third of customer interruptions. These outages not only leave utility customers without electricity, but also represent significant repair costs and risks to the employees performing these repairs.
Weather events are becoming more extreme and more unpredictable, requiring more resilient networks and a plan for dealing with critical but aging infrastructure. At the same time, there’s the additional need to decarbonize—and hopefully mitigate the impact of a changing climate by doing so.
With climate challenges only growing in intensity, today’s best practice is to shift focus from traditional rapid disaster response to more dynamic long-term planning.
