Cleco Power sent 42 workers to San Benito, Texas, to assist with power restorations after Hurricane Dolly hit south Texas last Wednesday.
Cleco workers left Friday morning at 8 a.m. from Crowley to assist AEP Texas repair damage caused by the hurricane. Crews had planned to arrive Saturday evening at their destination, which is located approximately 35 miles from the South Padre Island area where the eye wall of the Category 2 storm made landfall.
"We've been on the receiving end of needing assistance following storms and are always willing to lend a hand to other utilities," said Floyd Pittman, Cleco's mutual assistance coordinator. "We feel for the communities and companies affected and will help in any way we can. Our guys will work just as hard for AEP's customers as they would for our customers."
AEP Texas reports approximately 201,000 customers in the Rio Grande Valley and 35 percent of its customers in San Benito are currently without power after Hurricane Dolly pushed through its service territory. AEP Texas serves more than 900,000 customers statewide.
