Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions, working on behalf of Scottish Hydro Electric Limited (SHETL), has completed the first new tower on the replacement Beauly – Denny electricity line in Scotland.

Engineers working for the company lowered the final section of the new tower into place last week.

The completion of the first tower marks a key stage in the project, which will allow for the large volume of renewable generation in the north of Scotland to enter the UK’s main electricity grid.

A number of towers will be constructed throughout this year at various locations along the 200km line. Related works, including the construction of temporary access tracks, have been underway for around a year. The project is due for completion in 2014.
