FirstEnergy Uses Helicopters to Complete Transmission Line Work in Northeast OhioAug 1, 2014
FirstEnergy, like many other utilities, regularly installs overhead transmission lines through the use of a helicopter. Helicopters provide a safe and less intrusive way to string transmission line vs. the typical method of installing conductors from the ground.
This operation will occur on the open arm section of existing towers on the Bruce Mansfield to Glenwillow project. The helicopters are used to transport crews and materials (insulators, hardware, and pulley blocks) to structures and to string, from structure to structure, the “pulling rope” that will be used as a guide to install the conductors.
