ATSI Signs Agreement to Join PJM
American Transmission Systems, Inc. has signed an agreement to join PJM Interconnection, LLC. A Federal Energy Regulatory Commission order approving the integration was issued last week and contained the terms required for the move.
ATSI's transmission assets are located within the footprint of FirstEnergy's Ohio and Pennsylvania Power (Penn Power) utilities. The assets currently are operated by the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator.
"We appreciate FERC's timely decision, which will support our orderly transition into PJM," said Stanley Szwed, vice president FERC Policy and Compliance, for FirstEnergy. "The move will take advantage of our strong interconnections with PJM, and our customers will benefit from its more fully developed retail choice market."
The integration into PJM is expected to be complete on June 1, 2011, to coincide with delivery of power under the next competitive generation procurement process for FirstEnergy's Ohio companies and Penn Power.
