ALSTOM Makes Arctic Grid Connections
The world's most northernly windfarm at Havøygavlen in Finnmark, Norway, was officially opened on June 4, 2003, by Norwegian Oil and Energy Minister Einar Steensnæs.
The windfarm has been in operation since October 2002 and will have an annual electrical power production of roughly 120 GWh, the equivalent of the annual consumption of 5000 to 6000 households in Norway.
The 16 2.5-MW windmills were supplied, installed and are operated by Nordex. ALSTOM T&D provided and installed all of the electrical equipment, including 16 0.66/22-kV transformers, one at the base of each windmill; the windfarm's main 40 MVA, 22/66-kV transformer; the 22/66-kV substation switchboards; and protection and control equipment.
