India: ABB Takes a Hand in Strengthening India's Power Grid
National Thermal Power Corp. Ltd. of India awarded ABB (Zurich, Switzerland) a $38 million order for extra-high-voltage transformers and reactors. The contract is part of the country's plan to strengthen its 765-kV power network and help meet growing demand.
Under the terms of the contract, ABB will deliver eight 200 MVA, 21/765-kV generator transformers, seven 333 MVA, 765/400/32-kV autotransformers and ten 80 MVA, 765-kV shunt reactors. The transformers and shunt reactors will be manufactured in ABB's factory in Ludvika, Sweden. ABB India will provide the local interface, logistics, commissioning and after-sales support.
The units will be delivered to the newly built power plant Sipat 2 in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh in November 2006. ABB will be responsible for the transportation, erection and commissioning of all 25 units.
