Morocco: ALSTOM to Strengthen Moroccan Transmission Grid
An ALSTOM-led consortium has won a Euro 69 million contract in Morocco to supply, on a turnkey basis, three new extra-high-voltage substations and upgrade another as part of a project by state-utility Office National d'Electricité (ONE) to build the country's 400-kV network.
The 400-kV project is designed to strengthen the country's transmission system and improve links with neighboring countries, and is part of a considerable investment program by ONE.
ALSTOM, through its Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Sector, will carry out the design and engineering of the 400/225-kV substations and supply the equipment, which includes circuit breakers, power transformers, shunt reactors and associated protection and digital control systems. Local partners will carry out erection and civil works. The three new substations will be located at Mediouna, near Casablanca; Toulal, near Meknes; and Bourdim, near Oujda. The substation at Meloussa near Tanger will be extended.
