Regulators Approve WMECo Upgrade
Western Massachusetts Electric Co. (WMECo) has received approval from the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities for a transmission line project between Agawam and West Springfield. WMECo plans to break ground on this system reliability project in early summer.
The US$22 million upgrade will include rebuilding two 115-kV circuits along 2.5 miles (4 km) of an existing transmission right-of-way between substations in Agawam and West Springfield.
Both 115-kV circuits, which are now located on a single row of structures, will be separated and relocated on two rows of new structures. Separation improves reliability and reduces the potential for any single incident to affect both circuits.
