Transmission Emergency Continues in Southern California
The Southern California firestorms continue to affect multiple facilities of high-voltage transmission grid throughout the southland, causing the California Independent System Operator Corporation to call a Transmission Emergency for Southern California.
While the fires and smoke have caused transmission lines in many locations in Southern California to trip out of service for various lengths of time, the most dramatic impact currently is in San Diego, where multiple lines in the 500, 230 and 138-thousand volt rating are no longer in service.
The situation remains highly dynamic with conditions on the electrical grid changing rapidly. Where possible, without compromising individual health or welfare, voluntary energy conservation in San Diego can help reduce the strain on the transmission lines that remains in service.
The California ISO is working closely with San Diego Gas and Electric, Southern California Edison, various state agencies and other utilities to coordinate and communicate about the changing conditions.
