Letters to the Editor
I just read your editorial [“A Helluva Engineer,” February 2008] on Doug and it made me teary-eyed. I had exchanged e-mails with Doug in the last month [before he died] about how much good he had done for the industry being the distribution automation evangel. As you know, he was also a good friend. He personally asked me to carry on his message. I'll try my best, but there is no replacing Doug.

I just wanted to e-mail you to tell you how wonderful I thought your article about Doug was. He and my boyfriend, Brian Mugalian, worked together at S&C for many years, and through Brian I met Doug. I was also at S&C, but in R&D on the chemistry side.
Reading your article made me glad I knew Doug. Brian and I were able to spend a great evening with him and [his wife] Jody about a week before he passed. We laughed and talked and watched his favorite channel, The Food Network.
He was a warm and caring person and so full of life; reading your article made me a little sad, but made me smile as well. He was a good friend, and I am proud to see that he was so well thought of in the industry, something I didn't really know because, to me, he was just my friend Doug at S&C, a regular guy. I will miss him, but I have a lot of good memories of him to last me a lifetime.

I normally do not read T&D World, but happened to pick up your February 2008 issue at a recent GITA conference in Seattle. I was moved by your article about Mr. Doug Staszesky and wanted to thank you. Too often, technical periodicals and journals tend to focus only on the business side of what we do. Your editorial humanized things a bit and makes us realize that people and relationships are the most important aspects of why we do things.
