Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution (PTD, Erlangen, Germany) and Stadtwerke Leipzig GmbH (Leipzig Municipal Utilities, Leipzig, Germany) have joined forces to form Energy Services GmbH, a 50-50 joint venture company set up to provide energy services for industrial customers and public power supply utilities throughout Germany.
Energy Services GmbH pools the major expertise of both partners, which in Siemens's case lies in a sales and marketing organization well established throughout Germany, and on the part of Stadtwerke Leipzig features significant know-how in terms of system operation and multi-utility experience. Customers will be able to approach the joint venture not just for the energy services implicit in the name, but also to outsource the actual management of their energy systems. This might include taking over operating personnel, possible supply systems, as well as the management of purchasing or building new systems, including support with financing. The services will include technical matters such as network analysis, network management systems, energy controlling, maintenance and spare parts management, along with business administration functions such as billing, the energy portfolio and accounting group management.
