Last week, Transmission & Distribution World relayed the news that the Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System was operational and delivering solar electricity to California customers. The facility’s trio of 450-foot high towers produces a gross total of 392 MW of solar power, enough electricity to provide 140,000 California homes with clean energy. Ivanpah is a joint effort between NRG, Google, and BrightSource Energy. Bechtel is the engineering, procurement, and construction contractor on the project. The project received a $1.6 billion loan guarantee from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office.
What is even more impressive are the images of this spread-out power plant in the California Mojave Desert, 40 miles (64 km) southwest of Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. The following images are from Brightsource Energy. They include scenes of the construction and expanse of the system.
