ABB is offering a new smart grid-enabled remote monitoring solution for SF6 power circuit breakers rated 38 kV to 800 kV, known as the CBS Lite CSA condition-based maintenance monitoring solution.
The Coil Current Signature Analysis (CSA) feature is provided in addition to the monitoring features of the regular CBS Lite. The CBS Lite CSA monitors interrupter wear, integrity of the SF6 gas system, the circuit breaker mechanical system, the electrical control system and auxiliaries. The CBS Lite CSA consists of a microprocessor unit and sensors. The unit is housed in a NEMA-1 enclosure, which is installed inside the circuit breaker control cabinet or in an additional enclosure mounted on the side of the circuit breaker cabinet.
The CBS Lite CSA is designed and tested to operate under temperatures ranging from -40ºF to 160ºF (-40ºC to +70ºC) and to survive EMI conditions in a substation environment. It has been tested for electromagnetic compatibility and surge-withstand capability according to IEC 61000-4 standards. The front panel has five lights that indicate status and condition. Its sensors and inputs detect parameters necessary to determine the health condition of the circuit breaker, such as gas pressure, temperature, current, voltage and coil continuity. The CBS Lite CSA continuously collects data from sensors, performs calculations, stores data in memory and compares data against established limits or setpoints for each parameter, which provides condition alarms from the device via alarm contacts, DNP3.0 or as part of ABB’s software packages.
