Alfanar Construction, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has signed several strategic projects to the tune of SR 1.5 billion (US$400 million) in the first half of 2013. The projects awarded include the construction of substations as well as underground cabling works in different parts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, Alfanar bagged the Best Energy Project Award for its Hail III power plant at the Middle East Electricity exhibition, the largest exhibition of its kind in the region.

The substation project was signed with the Saline Water Conversion Corp. (SWCC), which awarded one of its largest T&D power project worth SR 716 million to Alfanar. This project aims at integrating the large Power Generation capacity (3100 MW) of Yanbu III into the grid to provide reliable power by optimizing flexibility and reliability of the power generated. Alfanar shall be fully  responsible for the turnkey construction of Yanbu (3) substation required for the  Complete Power Transmission from Yanbu III 3100 MW Power Generation Facility to PS2 380-kV and 110-kV substations. This project will supply power to the SWCC pumping stations. The project will be executed on an extremely fast track basis since the substations are scheduled to be completed and put into service within 22 Months.

The contract signing ceremony was held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Aziz Bin Majid Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, Governor of Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah region.
