The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is asking for public input about transmission system upgrades in central Mississippi that would increase power reliability for the area and enhance overall reliability of the TVA system.

TVA is proposing to build about 55 mi of transmission line from its Red Hills Substation to Central Electric Power Association’s upgraded Kosciusko Substation, and then to the Leake-Singleton 161-kV transmission line. This would create a new Red Hills-Leake transmission line that would power three local substations, improve reliability and resolve overload issues.

The lines would be built on steel pole structures on a 100-ft right of way. Several alternate line routes are being considered with some using existing right of way. Public input is encouraged, beginning with two open houses in early September.

Detailed maps showing the different locations being considered for the proposed system upgrades will be available. TVA staff will answer questions, discuss concerns and receive comments. More information is available. The project is expected to be in service summer 2019. Construction is scheduled to begin spring 2017.
