IES Subsidiary Builds Power Line Close to the Polar Circle

IES-EnergoStroyEngineering (IES-ESE - part of the IES) started construction in March of a 110 km long, 500 kV overhead transmission line between the towns of Kholmogory and Muravlenkovskoe, both in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. The line, being built in the tough conditions of the Russian extreme North by IES-ESE affiliated company “NoyabrskElectroSetStroy,” costs more than $38 million (more than 1 bln rubles).

The project has entered an “active” stage and is due to be completed this year. Construction will involve 120 people who will work on a double-shift basis to shorten a construction period in the northern environment.

When finished the new transmission line will interlink two operational electric power substations – Holmogorskaya (500 kV) and Tarko-Salinskaya (500 kV) thus creating an integrated power system, increasing energy flow from southern regions of the Autonomous District to the North and decreasing expenses for the energy transmission. The project is commissioned on order of the Trunk electric power lines of Western Siberia (part of “FSK UES”).

According to the statement of IES-ESE General Director Mr. Alexander Trinz, the energy facility Kholmogory-Muravlenkovskoe is integral to a project aimed at complex development of the energy system in the north of the Tyumen Region. Additionally it is aimed at reducing a power deficit of this promising economically developing region at the time of stable economic growth.
