ATC Broadhead-South Monroe Rebuild Underway
American Transmission Co. will soon begin rebuilding the 18-mi, 69-kV electric transmission line that connects the Brodhead Substation and South Monroe Substation in Monroe, Wisc. The age and condition of the existing line, which was built in 1950, necessitates the rebuild.
The new line will make a vital improvement in the reliability of the electric transmission system serving the area and will help ensure that the south central Wisconsin area is served by a reliable electric delivery system in years to come. The voltage of the line will not change, but the replacement structures and line will be designed to accommodate increased electric demand and to support growth. Weathering steel poles will be used for the majority of the line.
The new line will follow the route of the existing line, and the work will involve installing new poles, wires and insulators. Construction is scheduled to begin spring 2011 and is projected to continue through December 2011.Want to use this article? Click here for options!
