Ausgrid’s Sydney Olympic Park Substation Project
Ausgrid has announced plans for a new $46 million substation project for Sydney’s Olympic Park. The planned 132/11-kV substation will help meet the future commercial and residential electricity needs as proposed under Sydney Olympic Park’s Master Plan 2030.
Ausgrid crews including about 20 cable jointers, apprentices and substation technicians will help install new protection panels, switchgear and transformers as well as new 132-kV cables from the existing network to the substation and new 11-kV cables to the local area.
An additional 50 civil workers will spend about 12 months constructing the new architect-designed substation building. Ausgrid has consulted extensively with the Sydney Olympic Park Authority from the early planning stages to ensure the new substation is in line with the Authority's urban development plans.
Work on the multimillion dollar project is scheduled to start in August 2011 and expected to be completed by mid 2013.
