Grid in Drenthe and Noord‑Oostpolder to Be Upgraded

Electricity transmission operator TenneT is planning to realize several new cable links and high‑voltage substations in the provinces of Drenthe and Overijssel. The new substations will be built near Klazienaveen, IJsselmuiden and Luttelgeest. The expansions are an essential part of TenneT’s grid upgrade program. The new connections will also enable TenneT to connect local horticulture businesses to the electricity grid. The projects are scheduled for completion in 2011.

The decision to build the new substations and cable links was made in consultation with local authorities and representatives of the glasshouse horticulture sector, who have committed themselves to actually using the new infrastructure. The substations will also secure a future‑proof energy supply in the region. The first piles for these high‑ and medium‑voltage substations are expected to be sunk early next year. The work will be carried out in close in operation in mid‑2011.

The Present and Future of Grid-Connected Energy Storage

Sponsored by Ice Energy

In this new energy world, we are facing state green energy targets that mandate utilities deliver 20% renewables by 2020. But we know that wind and solar don’t bend to our will like coal and nuclear so, to put it simply, if we are to meet the demands of the times we need the ability to store and recall energy.
