Temporary Closure of Lee Valley Towpath for Essential Electricity Work

A stretch of the Lee Valley towpath, Edmonton, England, has been closed temporarily to allow essential electricity works to take place. The Electricity Alliance, a partnership between National Grid and Balfour Beatty, is currently refurbishing the overhead electricity transmission line between substations at Waltham Cross, Brimsdown and Tottenham.

To ensure the work can be carried out safely and effectively we have temporarily closed the towpath running to the west of the William Girling Reservoir, near Edmonton and Ponders End. We hope to reopen the path as soon as possible and anticipate that this will be sometime in September 2009.

Clearly signed diversions will be in place via Lee Park Way and Meridian Way. This work will not affect local electricity supplies.

National Grid Project Manager Simon Chandler said: “We are sorry for any inconvenience the footpath closure and our essential work may cause. We will do all we can to complete the project as quickly and considerately as possible.

The project is part of the Electricity Alliance’s ongoing work to ensure a safe and secure electricity supply to the South East in future years.
