Completion of $26.5 Million Kearneys Spring Substation, Toowoomba
Toowoomba’s ongoing growth and development received a major boost today with news that the city’s $26.5 million electricity substation at Kearneys Spring is now operational. The first new substation built in Toowoomba, South East Queensland, since 1995 will initially supply power to 8,000 customers, delivering an important increase in the overall capacity of the city’s electricity network.
Ergon Energy Manager Regional Services Dave Heberlein said the 110,000 – 11,000 volt (110/11-kV) substation was essential to keep pace with Toowoomba’s growing demand.
“The demand for electricity in southern Toowoomba has been growing at a phenomenal rate in recent years,” Heberlein said
“You only have to look at the residential development in Middle Ridge and Kearneys Spring, the commercial and industrial development on Ruthven Street and Anzac Avenue, plus the continued growth of USQ, to understand why that increase has occurred.
