LIPA and National Grid Continue To Restore Power to Long Island, NY

LIPA and National Grid have restored the power to 93 percent of customers affected by Hurricane Irene. Significant progress has been made restoring 486,000 customers of the original 523,000. As of Saturday morning, September 3, 36,000 customers remained affected by Irene.

“While we have restored nearly half a million people over the last six days, we realize that we still have customers without power from Hurricane Irene and rest assured, our crews will be out in full force as long as it takes until every last customer is restored,” said LIPA Chief Operating Officer, Michael Hervey.

As of Tuesday morning, September 3, approximately 4,000 line and tree crews are working across Long Island. Over, 3,000 off-island crews are working through the holiday weekend and are being lodged in shelters at Bay Shore High School, Nassau Coliseum, and Suffolk Community College. We continue with a large contingent of survey personnel, call center personnel, logistics and other support personnel. LIPA and National Grid have better than 7,500 resources assisting with restoration activities.
