Essential Repairs to National Grid’s Electricity Transmission Network, Sutton, UK

National Grid is to carry out essential repairs to a high voltage electricity transmission cable in the Sutton, UK area. A fault has been found on a stretch of the cable beneath Croydon Road (the A232), which is a Transport for London (TFL) red route. This cable forms a key part of the network which secures electricity supplies for the South London area and it must be repaired as soon as possible. Repair work will begin on January 5 2010 and will take approximately six weeks to complete.

National Grid Transmission Supervisor Mark Barnes said: “We apologize for any inconvenience our work may cause. However these vital repairs need to be carried out to ensure people continue to enjoy reliable electricity supplies. “People can rest assured that we will do our utmost to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.”

The repair work has been planned in close consultation with TFL and other local stakeholders. The work will not result in any disruption to electricity supplies.
