National Grid Reaches For The Sky in Thurrock

Engineers will be at work up above as National Grid carries out an essential upgrade to its overhead electricity lines in Thurrock, United Kingdom. This vital work forms part of National Grid’s ongoing mission to ensure London and the South East continue to enjoy safe and reliable electricity supplies in the future.

Refurbishment work will be taking place on the 275-kV overhead line between Lakeside and West Thurrock substation. The route passes Thurrock Trade Park and Thurrock Commercial Park on Oliver Road, where it goes underground to the Littlebrook National Grid substation on the south side of the river.

Work begins this month and is due to be completed in December 2010.
The Electricity Alliance East, a partnership between National Grid and Balfour Beatty, will be carrying out the work.

National Grid project engineer Peter Bullen said: “This essential work will help ensure that the region continues to enjoy safe and reliable electricity supplies in future years.
“We are doing our utmost to ensure it is carried out with a minimum of disruption. There will be no impact on the local power supply and traffic and noise management plans are also in place to ensure the work is carried out as smoothly as possible.”

The work follows work on the overhead line between Tilbury and Lakeside, which is due to be completed next month.
