Far North NSW - Dumaresq to Lismore 330-kV Transmission Line Pending Approval

Australia’s TransGrid has proposed to build a 330-kV transmission line across Far North New South Wales (NSW) to help meet the region’s growing electricity needs.
Peak electricity demand in Far North NSW continues to increase, with the region’s summer demand reaching record highs.

TransGrid plans to invest more than $200 million in the Far North New South Wales (NSW) Transmission Line Project.

The proposed line would stretch approximately 205 km between the existing Dumaresq Switching Station near Bonshaw, and Lismore Substation. An extensive Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Project has been undertaken and placed on public exhibition until 24 October 2011.
The document includes detailed cultural heritage, flora and fauna studies. It also details a range of mitigation measures, which will be adopted to help reduce the Project’s environmental footprint.

Following public exhibition, the Project will be submitted to the NSW Minister for Planning for approval. Pending approval of the Project, construction is expected to begin in mid 2012 and be completed in 2015.

The EA may be viewed at the following site: http://majorprojects.planning.nsw.gov.au/
