Draft Decisions on Southern Section of Randstad 380-kV Connection Available for Public Inspection
Randstad 380-kV, the new high-voltage connection for the Randstad conurbation, The Netherlands, is entering its next phase. From now to Thursday 4 June inclusive, all draft decisions relating to the southern section (‘South Ring’) of the connection, which runs from Wateringen to Bleiswijk, will be available for public inspection. Among other things, these documents will specify the exact route of the South Ring and describe how the connection is to be installed. Members of the public will be able to comment on the plans until June 4. Three information meetings will be held in May to explain the plans in detail.
The new Randstad 380-kV connection is being constructed to ensure sufficient capacity for electricity transmissions in the future. This will help safeguard the security and continuity of the Dutch energy supply. The connection comprises two sections: one between Beverwijk and Zoetermeer (North Ring), and one between Zoetermeer and Wateringen (South Ring). The South Ring is the most urgent section and is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2011.
