Service Improvements Under Way in Suffield, Connecticut

As part of its ongoing efforts to improve its electrical distribution system throughout Connecticut, The Connecticut Light and Power Co. (CL&P) is upgrading the system in Suffield. The $115,000 project, which is under way, will improve reliability for customers throughout the area. The work, scheduled to be completed by the end of June, includes:

  • Upgrading equipment on poles to minimize the possibility of outages;
  • Tree trimming will also be done on these streets. Tree-related outages are the number one cause of power outages, and regularly scheduled trimming is needed to reduce service interruptions. Trimming is also necessary to provide sufficient working space so line workers can maintain a safe distance from the power lines when repairing them;
  • Installing additional equipment that will isolate any problems from the rest of the area.

“With the successful completion of this work, our Suffield customers will have a stronger, more reliable system to meet their current and future needs," said Bob Coates, director of Central Division Operations for CL&P. “These improvements are part of the nearly $3 billion investment in our infrastructure we are making across the state over the next five years.
