Service Completed on Vancouver Submarine Cable
One of two 500 kV electrical submarine circuits connecting Vancouver Island to the Lower Mainland is back in service following repair according to BC Transmission Corp. (BCTC). The circuit was taken out of service in April due to equipment damage.
During the repair, Vancouver Island continued to be supplied with electricity by the second 500 kV circuit, on-island generation, and other cable connections between Vancouver Island and the mainland.
Portions of B.C.’s transmission system, such as the connections to Vancouver Island, are designed with backup systems to attempt to ensure there is a continuous, reliable supply of electricity.
